David's 1929 Model CS1 Norton


-SG- I freely admit that it is not often I am complimentary about Norton restorations but it is the exception that proves the rule. If a project starts as a pile of parts which come from several different sources as did this one - NZ, UK and South Africa - then one has little option but to 'restore' and I congratulate the owner on a job well done. In essence, it costs no more to do it right than to do it wrong and those enthusiastic users of polished stainless and excess plating here, there and everywhere should take a good look at this bike, which goes as well as it looks. What's wrong? Well I guess you could criticize the TT carb. in place of the original Binks ...

David tells me he completed a major rally a few months back - 1800 miles in eight days - and the bike performed as one would expect from a Norton - Unapproachable. It is apparently good for about 90 mph on petrol as shown by a gallop at the Hampton Downs circuit in NZ earlier this year ...
